Elly De La Cruz's 25th Home Run Powers Reds to Victory
De La Cruz's Three-Run Bomb Keys Reds' Win
Elly De La Cruz continued his impressive rookie campaign by blasting his 25th home run of the season on Sunday, leading the Cincinnati Reds to a 7-1 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates.
The 21-year-old shortstop's three-run homer in the fourth inning gave the Reds a 4-0 lead and proved to be the decisive blow in the game.
De La Cruz is now tied for sixth in the National League in home runs and is on pace to become the first Reds rookie to hit 30 homers since Tony Perez in 1964.
Reds' Pitching Staff Shines
In addition to De La Cruz's heroics at the plate, the Reds' pitching staff turned in a solid performance, limiting the Pirates to just one run on five hits.
Starter Hunter Greene pitched five innings, allowing one run on four hits while striking out six batters.
The bullpen turned in four scoreless innings, with Art Warren, Buck Farmer, and Alexis DÃaz combining to allow just one hit.
Reds' Offense Provides Support
While De La Cruz's home run was the key hit of the game, the Reds' offense provided plenty of support throughout the contest.
Nick Senzel went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI, while Jonathan India added two hits and an RBI.
The Reds finished the game with 11 hits and drew five walks, putting pressure on the Pirates' pitching staff all afternoon.
Pirates' Offense Struggles
The Pirates' offense struggled to keep pace with the Reds, managing just one run on five hits.
Bryan Reynolds went 2-for-4 with a double, while Ke'Bryan Hayes added two hits.
Pirates' starter JT Brubaker pitched four innings, allowing four runs on seven hits while striking out four batters.
Reds Extend Winning Streak
The Reds' victory was their fourth in a row, extending their winning streak to a season-high four games.
The win also moved the Reds to within 3.5 games of the first-place Milwaukee Brewers in the NL Central.
The Reds will look to continue their winning ways when they open a three-game series against the Chicago Cubs on Tuesday.
